On the whole the horses are running well without unfortunately winning. We have had three horses in the last week beaten a head or a nose and Mazzini running over 7f beaten a length. MAZZINI was third on his first start over 7f and went one better on his second. He is running some terrific races in defeat and seems to have a liking for Chelmsford where the prize money is so good.
WOOTYHOOT ran a great race over 1m2f also at Chelmsford and just failed to get his head in front on the line. This was such an encouraging run and lots of hope for the future.
We cannot understand why TRIBUTE ACT holds her head at such an angle when on the racecourse as at home she is a gem of a ride and doesnt do it. It was really just a bob of the heads in her race at Ascot and a stride before the line and a stride after she would have won. George Wood rode a lovely race because she did not look easy.
Unfortunately some of the partners and I were standing at the wrong angle to the winning post at Newmarket and thought MAGICAL DREAMER had won her race but again we were second beaten a head. It was a fantastic run from her in her toughest race yet. We had hormonal problems with her earlier but she has been so tough on the racecourse. That is her fourth second in a row. She is now going away for a holiday and we will race her again next year. She has done nothing but improve and hopefully she will strengthen up over the winter and be even better next year.
We have our two SOCIETY ROCK horses running today. SOCIETY PRINCE is running in the first division of the 6f Matchbook Casino Novice Stakes (Div I) and SPORTING BILL in the second. SOCIETY PRINCE ran a great race in his first at Yarmouth to finish fourth having travelled and quickened well but just got tired and the soft ground. He doesnt have a very good draw today and there are horses with similar form to him and some unraced ones. He looks the spitting image of his Dad and has the same characteristics. SPORTING BILL is a much bigger horse and is owned by SOCIETY ROCKS owner Simon Gibson. Everything might happen a bit too fast for him but he should hopefully be running on at the end. they both look nice horses for the future.
I hope the ground at Leicester continues to stay soft as PTARMIGAN RIDGE is running there tomorrow and he will not mind how soft it is. This will more than likely be his last race of the year before having a holiday. His half sister by Nathaniel is selling at Tattersalls yearling sales this morning.
It is a very busy time trying to juggle racing and buying horses for the future. There are several yearlings out of mares that had been trained at Pegasus. There is a very nice colt by Kyllachy out of ISOLA VERDE who is coming up early. Quite soon after that there is a good looking Nathaniel filly who is ahlaf sister to DONT STARE, FLORISS and PTARMIGAN RIDGE. On Wednesday there is filly out of FRIZZANTE coming up I am looking forward to seeing.
